SHARP INTRODUCES NEW SCREEN SIZE HIGH-DEFINITION AQUOS LC-TV WITH DRAMATICALLY ENHANCED SPECIFICATIONS

57-Inch Model Increases Breadth of Line and Improves Product Performance

LAS VEGAS, NV, January 5, 2006 -- Reinforcing its commitment to take LCD TV to the next level of performance, Sharp Electronics today unveiled the high-definition 57-inch widescreen AQUOS®, the LC-57D90U. This groundbreaking product marks the introduction of a brand-new large screen size to the award-winning AQUOS line – already the most extensive in the industry – as well as the debut of dramatically-enhanced capabilities that clearly make it the top-performing Liquid Crystal HDTV on the market.

The 57-inch AQUOS raises the bar for LC-TV with the latest version of Sharp’s proprietary Advanced Super View (ASV) LCD panel, enabling an incredible 1500:1 contrast ratio and an unparalleled pixel response time of 4 ms, which further improves the picture on fast-moving action scenes for a dramatic, flowing motion. The 57-inch AQUOS features Sharp’s new proprietary 5-wavelength backlight system that provides deeper, more vibrant and vivid reds and greens than previously possible. Viewing angles have been extended in this model to a dramatic 176 degrees, thanks to Sharp’s brand-new, proprietary multi-pixel technology, so users can view the television from virtually anywhere in the room.

“The fact that we have enhanced our award-winning AQUOS technology even further is yet another testament to Sharp’s commitment to leadership in high definition LCD,” said Bob Scaglione, senior vice president, Consumer Electronics Marketing Group, Sharp Electronics Corporation. “With the 57-inch AQUOS, Sharp now offers the two largest available LC-TVs in the world. No other LCD manufacturer comes close to the breadth and performance of the AQUOS line.”

The LC-57D90U features full 1080p (1920 x 1080) resolution, the leading high-definition standard, and a true 16:9 aspect ratio, for a premium high-definition viewing experience. It is Digital Cable Ready and includes a built-in CableCARD™ slot that allows consumers to easily connect to compatible cable systems to enjoy high-definition programming without an extra set-top box.* Additionally, the LC-57D90U features HDMI, dual HD component, DVI-I and dual i-Link advanced digital interfaces, for the ultimate in connectivity options.

Advancing Sharp’s Emmy® Award-winning LCD technology**, the 57-inch AQUOS is manufactured at Sharp’s state-of-the-art Kameyama factory. All products in the AQUOS line utilize Sharp’s proprietary ASV panels with Black TFT low-reflection coating, which dramatically reduce glare even in harsh lighting conditions, so the TV can be placed anywhere in a room and still maintain its stellar picture quality. The LC-57D90U features a sleek titanium finish and detachable bottom speakers for maximum placement flexibility in the home, and the included table stand is easily removable for wall mounting.

Pricing and availability:

SHARP BOLSTERS AQUOS LINE WITH ITS FIRST WIDESCREEN 20-INCH LCD TV

Newest screen size features HDTV and PC compatibility

LAS VEGAS, NV, January 5, 2006 -- Recognizing the growing consumer demand for LCD televisions and the rising popularity of widescreen and high-definition programming, Sharp, the worldwide leader in flat-panel Liquid Crystal Display Televisions*, is introducing their newest 20-inch AQUOS® LCD television at 2006 CES. The high-definition compatible LC-20D30U – the first AQUOS television to offer consumers a 16:9 widescreen aspect ratio in a unit of this size – further broadens the already impressive AQUOS line, which includes more than 50 different models ranging from 13- to 65-inches.

“With the increase in HDTV programming and the growth of widescreen-format DVD movies and television broadcasts, consumers are looking for a true theater from televisions of all sizes,” said Bruce Tripido, director of product marketing for display devices, Consumer Electronics Group, Sharp. “Sharp is bringing new capabilities to smaller screen sizes of AQUOS as part of our commitment to provide a complete suite of solutions that answer the home theater needs of any consumer.”

Perfect for a smaller or secondary television-watching space, the widescreen format of the LC-20D30U allows movies to be seen in the aspect ratio originally intended by the director and provides a complete entertainment solution in a manageable cabinet size. Featuring Sharp’s Emmy® Award-winning LCD technology**, the LC-20D30U offers enhanced features that increase the functionality of the television compared to other small-screen models. It is able to receive and display HDTV signals***, enabling consumers to enjoy high-definition programming, and a PC input allows the TV to also be used as a PC monitor, saving space and reducing clutter. The LC-20D30U is certain to enhance the decor of any room, featuring a slim design and beautiful black matte finish, with black accents along the sides that make the screen stand out from the frame. Speakers placed below the LCD screen give this television a narrow footprint, allowing it to blend seamlessly into any furnishing set-up, and the detachable table-stand makes wall mounting an easy option.

As with previous AQUOS models, the LC-20D30U uses Sharp’s proprietary Advanced Super View (ASV) panel with “Black TFT” low-reflection coating, so it can be placed anywhere – even near windows, doors or other light sources – without losing its stellar picture quality. The LC-20D30U also delivers outstanding color clarity with a high contrast ratio of 800:1 for rich black tones. It features an impressive 1366 x 768 resolution for crisp, clear images whether watching TV shows or DVD movies, and the 170-degree viewing angles provide consumers with a great view of the TV from almost anywhere in the room.

The entire AQUOS line of liquid crystal televisions emphasizes the elegant design and superior performance consumers have come to expect from Sharp products. Every AQUOS model offers a long-life backlight (60,000 hours), multiple video signal inputs, one or more built-in cable TV tuners, remote control, V-Chip and high brightness levels for more vibrant colors in darker environments.
