calibration

CALIBRATION:
If you CALIBRATE, it will be GREAT!

Calibration is the best advice you will receive ANYWHERE!

In our research we CONSTANTLY come up with HDTV sets that perform at sub-optimal levels right out of the box (no matter who builds them or which type of microdisplay they are!) Read reviews from respected sites (try C-Net) and you’ll find the same chant over and over again, set after set: "after adjustment..." Some displays are too bright, some too green or red, and the correct balance takes more precision than you are ever likely to achieve yourself, even deep in the setup menus.

You might be wowed by the difference between your new display and your old set, but TAKE OUR ADVICE and have it professionally calibrated. Until you do, you haven't seen the best it can be!

This isn't a simple 'turn this knob then that one.' The last time I had it done, it took HOURS – the technician opened up the TV and pulled out a hidden panel with what I remember to be 60 (Right – 60!!!) knobs on it. He tweaked and tweaked, and when he left, our picture had improved dramatically! Treat yourself. Factor in calibration as part of the cost of the new set!

There’s an organization that trains dealers and techs to perform this service. They are called the Imaging Science Foundation and here’s a link to their dealer locator.

Link to ISF dealer/technician locator This will open a new page. If your popup blocker prevents it, hold the control key while you click on it.

The best advice I can give you is this: You cannot trust what you see in a store, and you cannot trust the way your HDTV looks out of the box – no matter how impressed you are!

By the way, there's absolutely no financial incentive involved in this suggestion. You need this information, so that's why we direct you to ISF. Don't confuse this with ads you'll see elsewhere on this site.
