CRT-DIRECT-VIEW

CRT Big screens - Value! Value! Value!

CRT-DIRECT-VIEW televisions with big Tubes bring home plenty of picture. Why this might be the best value in High definition television today!!!
Features to consider when choosing that big screen CRT-DIRECT-VIEW TV for your home theater system.

Cathode Ray Tube (CRT) direct view.

CRT: The conventional television. A large glass envelope, coated with phosphors on the inside. The picture is formed by an electron beam, the "cathode ray" that makes the phosphors glow. Usually deep. (Think old desk-eating style computer monitor.)

Plusses:
Popular.

Now flatter (who really cares?)

More accurate than before

Probably the lowest cost for each screen size

Excellent quality: in a CRT-DIRECT-VIEW the blacks are blacker and the contrast is greater

Wide viewing angle

The bright picture doesn’t wash out in ambient room light

Minuses:
Heavy. A 32-inch CRT television can be over 200 pounds and over 20 inches deep.

Size limitation to about 36-40 inches.

If you put speakers right next to the tube, you may get interference with the CRT electron guns unless the speakers are ‘magnetically shielded.’ “Captain, The shields will na HOLD!”

Obsolescence?

Bet on it. Not for quality issues, but for the rabid fans of space saving – hang-on-the-wall or projection TVs’ larger sizes. But if you buy a CRT-DIRECT-VIEW HDTV today, you can laugh for ten years or more as you enjoy a great picture.

JUSTIFY YOUR CRT-DIRECT-VIEW PURCHASE:
Laugh all the way to the bank.

COST
If you are a practical person who places a high value on getting the most bang for your bucks, you can save THOUSANDS over a similarly sized Plasma screen, by opting for a CRT based set. If you have decided you like the combination of features of HDTV, but want to save money above all else, this is the best technology for you to accomplish your goal.

ADVANTAGES
SAVE MONEY/ GREAT PICTURE! YOU SAVE A TON by choosing what will give you a GREAT picture in both HIGH and LOWER definition. This is one of the best bargains in home entertainment.

You have to ask why EVERYONE doesn’t get a CRT direct view based home entertainment system. Well, some are just crazy for the “hang it on the wall” idea. Even though there are wires that dangle or must be run THROUGH the wall! And it’s not like hanging a picture – these babies are heavy.

DISADVANTAGES
These sets will be phased out, I believe, because they take up a lot of space, are pretty heavy, can only be made up to a certain size, perhaps a little small for Home Entertainment Home Theater use.

As the manufacturers ramp up other technologies, this older, mature display will lose attention and sales, but if you buy today, at the peak of CRT technology, you can expect to live with your new TV for maybe 10 or more years.

But Consider:

A REAR SCREEN PROJECTION CRT TV be a heavy, all in one BOX TV. It will need periodic re-alignment to keep the best picture. But again, you get the benefit of tremendous cost savings until the newer display technologies are manufactured in sufficient quantities to drop their prices even lower. It’s just a matter of when you buy. SOMEDAY the LCDs and maybe PLASMAS will compete on price with CRT Projection… maybe. Till then, you win! SONY 34 Inch Super Fine Pitch(TM) XBR(R) Television KD-34XBR960

Recommended DIRECT VIEW

Sony KD-34XBR960

This CRT-DIRECT-VIEW unit brings home the highest resolution of any tube based HDTV available to the consumer, and is rated excellent by a large number of users. It’s big and bulky, but excels in picture quality with deeper blacks than any non-tube-tv. 196 pounds! 34 inch 16x9 screen. With CableCard slot and HDMI interconnectivity. Could use some proper calibration – reds might be overblown.

A note about calibration

In our research we CONSTANTLY come up with sets that perform at sub-optimum levels out of the box (no matter who builds them!) You might be wowed by the difference between your new display and your old set, but TAKE OUR ADVICE and have it professionally calibrated. This isn't a simple 'turn this knob then that one.' The last time I had it done it took HOURS and when the technician left, our picture had improved dramatically! Treat yourself. Especially with a CRT-DIRECT-VIEW. Factor in calibration as part of the cost of the new set! Look for an ISF tech.
